How Criminal Background Check Forms Are Used To Check A Prospect's Character
Criminal background check forms are forms issued by potential employers, or by an organization taking on help in a different capacity. They are sent to the applicant to be filled out, and then to the police department so that the information given can be verified. This information is vitally important, because it can save an organization from making a mistake which could have very serious consequences.
Depending on the nature of the position being applied for, the consequences could be as serious as putting innocent children at risk. Safety and security are now rightly seen as paramount, and the government has moved quickly to pass laws which make it mandatory for criminal record checks to be carried out.
These laws apply not only to paid employment, but also any part time or voluntary position where the applicant will be working with children. Even a scout group leader or a sports coach will have to consent to these checks being carried out. Protecting the welfare of future generations is by far the most important consideration.
The criminal background check is also needed in any job where the employee will have access to money. Security guard companies, for example, have extra rights not conferred on most businesses, rights to perform certain checks on financial history as well as a criminal check, which are denied to most companies.
The criminal background check forms are usually simple enough to fill in, as it is only basic information which is needed to access the criminal records database. One of the most important parts of the form is the clause which states that falsifying any information will automatically result in the application being voided. This is obviously critical, as anyone with a criminal mind may well be tempted to try to get around the system so that the damning evidence is not forced to show.
The form also rightly demands to know any previous names which the applicant has used. Using other names may be as innocent as a married woman having used her maiden name, or it may be part of a giant deception aimed at covering up a criminal past. It is important that the form covers this possibility, and demands full disclosure of all previous names.
The only other information required on the basic form is the obvious date of birth, and then some information which would allow you to be identified by body. The applicant's weight and height, as well as race and gender, are asked for as part of the form. These pieces of information are needed to see whether what is on the police computer tallies with the application being made. It guards against the possibility of someone with a criminal past stealing someone else's identity, and using that to evade detection.
The police department, on receiving the form, will carry out the background check. There will be a fee to pay for this. In most cases, the results will be a routine clearance, especially if the applicant themselves was aware of the check being carried out. Anyone with something to hide will just pull out in this case. This is why it is best to have the applicant personally fill in the criminal background check forms.
